Synopsis

Charlie Murray must leave Boston or he’s going to die. His stepbrothers are after him and they are more than willing to sink his body in the harbor to get what they want. With the help of his uncle Walter, Charlie runs west to a bustling, abolitionist town in Kansas Territory called Quindaro. Once there, it seems the list of people who want to kill him grows every day.

Quindaro weaves back and forth, following Charlie as he struggles to lay low and Walter while he works to put things right back east. Unfortunately, Charlie’s escape has brought him to a violent, unsettled land where political battle lines are drawn along the muddy river that divides the factions. No middle exists, Charlie must take a side. “Bleeding Kansas” as the era becomes known, is a misnomer. The American Civil War has already begun, and Charlie is in it up to his neck.
