Synopsis

London 1936. Ginny, a debutante, has been exploited for years by a charismatic, older man and is under the thumb of her well-meaning but bossy mother. Caught up in a scandal, her marriage prospects are ruined – until a new start on a tea plantation in India offers a chance for love and happiness.

But Ginny’s own inner demons, her husband’s expectations, the shallow lifestyle of the expatriate community and her mother-in-law’s bullying turn her dreams of happiness sour.

When Ginny meets Jagadish Mistry, she questions her prejudices about India and its people. Then the war changes everything.
