An Interview with Miranda Moon!

  1. What is your full name? Is there anything significant about your name?

My name is Miranda Moon. Significant? Well, it was partly because my last name–Moon—was recited in a curse that I ended up in Wunderwood. I suppose you could say that makes it significant.

  1. Do you have any special abilities?

I’ve always had a pretty good imagination, so I like to tell stories… I guess you might not consider that a special ability, though. Actually, I’m not even sure if I came up with all my stories on my own or if they ended up in my head another way. But there is something else I can do, something that is pretty special. It has to do with… nevermind! (More about that in The Tree of Mindala! I don’t want to spoil it for you.)

  1. What is your fondest memory?

Telling stories with my Grandmother Sunny in a glade near the old family cabin. She loved to hear my stories. She never said they were silly or crazy like a lot of people do. Sometimes she would nod while I talked, like she knew exactly what I was talking about, like she could see the things I imagined as clearly as I could. I miss her.

  1. When you walk into a room, what do you notice first?

I notice the plants. And they notice me too. That’s all I’m going to say. *Wink*

  1. What are you most proud of about your life?

After learning more about some of the people in my family tree, relatives I didn’t even know existed up until recently, I’m even more proud than ever to be a part of my family. There are things I could tell you… well, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that there are just some things that people need to see to believe. So even though I really don’t talk about those things that make me so proud of my family—their courageous choices, their sacrifices for love and for good—doesn’t mean I’m any less proud.

  1. What’s your favorite holiday? Why?

That’s easy! It’s Halloween! It’s like, for one day, what’s real becomes magic and what’s magic becomes real! It’s the one day a year when everyone believes in things that aren’t supposed to exist! For that one special day, it’s not just me.

  1. Tell us about Wunderwood.

This falls into the you-have-to-see-it-to-believe-it category I mentioned earlier, but since you asked… Wunderwood is a place where magic flows through all the trees and plants and even the creatures and people. The flowers and leaves and trees come in shapes, colors, and sizes you’ve never seen before. Some of the animals stand on two legs and speak! In human language! And sometimes, what they call Darkning rips through the sky; it’s like lightning, except the jagged bolts of electricity are black. The people there are like us in a lot of ways. But some are witches and warlocks, and others have other unique abilities. It’s really an amazing place.

  1. What is your greatest fear?

The first thing that comes to mind is water, big bodies of water. More specifically, drowning. But these days there’s something else that scares me even more: not finding out the whole truth about my family. Being in Wunderwood has answered questions I never even thought to ask, and that’s good. But it has raised even more questions… questions I just have to know the answers to. Not just because I’m curious, but I think it might be important for my own good, and maybe the good of others, especially in Wunderwood.

  1. You’ve studied Mythology in school, right? Which mythological creature do you identify with the most?

Dryads.

  1. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?

It was something my grandma said. She liked to speak in riddles and rhymes. It’s one of the things I loved most about her. Here’s what she said:

“There are wonders everywhere to be seen

By the open heart and mind.

But some secrets are best kept ‘tween you and me

And for others themselves to find.”
