About Sylvia Barnard

Sylvia Barnard shaped the lives of learners for forty years, as a classroom teacher, school principal, and superintendent schools, ending her career as the President of Cambrian College in Ontario. In retirement, she has turned her hand to her life-long love of story-telling. Her short stories have appeared in various on-line literary publications and two of her stories were honoured in a provincial writing competition.

Barnard holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and German from Wildrid Laurier University, a Bachelor and Master of Education from the University of Toronto. She has also completed a graduate certificate in Creative Writing from Humber College.

The child of immigrants, Barnard grew up in a small mining community north of Lake Superior. She is an avid world traveller. In her spare time, she hikes the woods in her backyard with her two dogs, kayaks, golfs, and produces stained glass art. She lives with her husband under a canopy of maple trees near Penetanguishene, Ontario.
