About Miguel Lopez de Leon

Miguel Lopez de Leon lives in Los Angeles. He writes young-adult, middle-grade, and dark fantasy novels. His debut novel Galadria: Peter Huddleston & The Rites of Passage was chosen by Kirkus Reviews as one of the “Best Books of 2014.”

Miguel’s novel Blue Cloak Warrior won First Place in five e-book categories at the 2020 Royal Dragonfly Book Awards: Science Fiction/Fantasy, Fiction Novel, LGBT, Young Adult Fiction, and General. Blue Cloak Warrior was also a Finalist at the 2020 IAN Book of the Year Awards (Fantasy Category), and was a 2020 B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree.

It Took Billy won Second Place at the 2018-2019 Reader Views Literary Awards (Horror Category), and was a Finalist at the 2019 Eric Hoffer Book Awards (Commercial Fiction Category).

Babble Magic won First Runner-Up at the 2019 Eric Hoffer Book Awards (Science Fiction & Fantasy Category). Babble Magic was also a Grand Prize Finalist (Short List) at the 2019 Eric Hoffer Book Awards, and won an Honorable Mention at the 2018-2019 Reader Views Literary Awards (Teen Category).

The Light Dweller was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2017-2018 Nautilus Book Awards (Middle Grade Fiction Category). The Light Dweller also won Second Place at the 2017-2018 Reader Views Literary Awards (Fantasy Category), and was a Finalist at the 2018 National Indie Excellence Awards (Fantasy Category).

The Covens of Elmeeria was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2017-2018 Nautilus Book Awards (Middle Grade Fiction Category). The Covens of Elmeeria also won Second Place at the 2017-2018 Reader Views Literary Awards (Young Adult Fiction Category).

In addition to writing, Miguel also attends and participates in a number of literary events and conventions, and even had his own booths at the 2019 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, and the 2019 L.A. Comic Con.

Before becoming a novelist, Miguel started out as a short-story writer. Over 30 of his short stories were chosen for publication, and appeared in various magazines and collections.

One of Miguel’s short stories, A Working Professional, won First Place in Writer’s Digest Magazine’s “Your Story #24” writing contest, and beat out over 550 other international submissions.
