About Laurel Bragstad

Laurel Bragstad has written “volumes” for classes she has taught for years at Alverno College in Milwaukee, and for her online interpersonal communication course, published and distributed by Cengage Learning. However, when she acquired the eloquent WW2 diaries of her elderly, shy, relative; a man who went to school up to the ninth grade and never married because he thought he “didn’t have much to offer”—a story of memories, love, and self-discovery began to take shape. In the Comfort of Shadows is Laurel’s debut novel. It was a finalist in the 2014 Midwest Book Awards, and readers have described the book as tender, compelling, and hard to put down. A reviewer for Midwest Book Review called In the Comfort of Shadows “poignant, engrossing, and unpredictable.”
A graduate of Alverno College and Marquette University, Laurel’s roots are in Wisconsin where she teaches, writes, and loves being with her family. She is working on a second novel.
