About Janet Stafford

Although born in Albany, NY, Janet spent most of her childhood and all of her teen years in Parsippany, NJ, a town with no downtown. A book lover and lifelong scribbler, she readily confesses to being overly-educated, having received a B.A. in Asian Studies from Seton Hall University, and a Master of Divinity degree and a Ph.D. in North American Religion and Culture from Drew University (two degrees at one university = glutton for punishment).

She eventually answered a call to vocational, but non-ordained ministry and is now convinced that God’s hobby is messing with her. Over the past 20+ years she has served six United Methodist Churches, working predominantly in the area of spiritual formation and ministries with children and youth, and more recently families. She has been told this keeps her young – however Janet suspects it more than likely keeps her crazy – but crazy in a good way. She also worked as an adjunct professor for a total of six years teaching classes in interdisciplinary studies and history.

Janet’s love of writing, history and religion came together in the Saint Maggie historical fiction series and, minus the history part, in Heart Soul & Rock ‘n’ Roll, a contemporary romance set in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.
