About James Sherwood Metts
James Sherwood Metts spent most of his childhood playing and exploring the beautiful area of Los Angeles called Windsor Hills. He was excited and naively curious. He went to the library almost every day while in elementary school looking for titles of books on every shelf that might capture his attention. He was in a book club too. Encyclopedia Brown books about a boy detective were his favorite. James collected rocks, fed the birds in his backyard, he had a greenhouse, he built models, made candles and macrame hangings. He put together puzzles, played board and card games. He played basketball, baseball, football, kickball, ping-pong, pool, tennis, paddle tennis and he was in gymnastics. He has ice skated, skied, skydived, bowled, whitewater rafted, made music and painted. Now he plays pickleball, practices his golf swing at the range, plays in the ocean and enjoys sightseeing while riding his bicycle.
James took on writing Planet Storyland to see if what he was thinking about made any sense. He is a member of the DFW Writer’s Workshop. He views life as magical despite its challenges. He wants kids to internalize that there is nothing better than being alive. And he wants the kids to take a pen and paper and let their questions be their guide.
