Synopsis

The story of MARGUERITE is factual and begins in the late 1800. Headstrong daughter of a French Marquis, she refuses an arranged marriage to a much older man. Refusing all attempts to cajole her, she is sent off to an Irish Convent to reflect on her intransigence. She meets and absconds with Patrick O’Hara, a personable young medical student, and the pair eventually marry in a clandestine manner. Pursued by Marguerite’s enraged father threatening prosecution for the abduction of a minor, Patrick joins the Indian Cavalry and they flee to British India. Far from the happiness the eighteen year old girl expects from her marriage, she watches her husband spiral into aggressive alcoholism, forced to protect her children from their father’s violence…
